Scope and Content

This series consists of the audio recordings of the Senate floor debates. Topics discussed include proposed legislation, votes on legislation, testimony or comments on legislation, resolutions, and all other business conducted on the floor of the Senate chamber.

After the initial introduction of a bill on the floor, it is discussed within an assigned standing committee. Following the committee hearing, the bill is returned to the full Senate with a report, whether favorably, favorably with amendments, substituted or that the bill has been tabled. At this time, the bill is debated on the floor in an open session as recorded in this record series. During debate, the bill may be amended or substituted, held (circled), or passed with sufficient votes. After a bill passes both the House and the Senate, the bill is enrolled and sent to the Governor.

Research Note

To ensure preservation of the originals, researchers seeking hearings 1965-1989 should be referred to the Senate for the CDs as well as for the more recent cassettes after 1990. Recordings from 1999 to the present are online at the Legislature's web site.
