Lieutenant Governor Trademark index cards

Scope and Content
This series consists of index cards to trademark registrations. The cards include the trademark name or a description of the mark, the items the mark is to be used on, name and address of the registering body, the date of registration and any subsequent renewals, the mark number, and the book and page number location of the mark in the register.

The Utah State Legislature passed a law which became effective May 10, 1955, requiring trademarks to be renewed every ten years. These index cards consist only of those marks renewed or created at or after that time, and which had expired by the time the trademark registration was transferred to the Department of Commerce, Division of Corporations in 1984. For more complete indexes to marks prior to 1955, see Series 401.
Trademark applications from the Lieutenant Governor, Series 398, contain the applications for trademarks and other documents relative to the registration and renewal of trademarks.
Trademarks registers from the Lieutenant Governor, Series 401, contain information similar to that found on the cards, and often contain samples of the marks themselves.
Trademark samples from the Secretary of State, Series 20316, provides a pictorial index for trademarks which are logos or other non-textual representations.

This series was archivally processed by Arlene Schmuland in July 1998. The cards were microfilmed in December 2000 and the originals destroyed.
