Scope and Content
This minute book records the actions of the county probate court in civil, criminal, and probate matters. The volume includes procedures for the court, financial claims presented for court business, and juror lists. Proceedings covered include probate cases for estates and guardianship; civil cases such as debt collection and divorce; chancery cases such as foreclosures and attachments; and criminal cases such as horse theft. Grand jury indictments are discussed. The probate judge solemnizes some marriages which are recorded in the minutes. Occasional grants of herd grounds and timber rights, more commonly present in the COUNTY COURT MINUTES, are also recorded.
Cedar County was dissolved by the legislature in January 1862 with its territory divided between Tooele and Utah counties. The Probate Judge signed a statement swearing that the foregoing minutes were an accurate record of the county on 25 January 1862.
