Scope and Content

Most of this series contains correspondence contending with gathering information on Utah's available resources, e.g., forest reserves, coal mines, irrigable and non irrigable land, water, natural scenery, production of minerals, climate, arid farming, and both private and public land. The information was accrued for a resource map made by the Conservation Commission. The purpose of the map was to help Utahns better understand what resources were available and how to utilize them without waste. The information was collected from national and state governmental departments, Utah counties, and private companies. The remainder of the correspondence entails the daily office chores, expenses, circulation of the resource map and duties of the commission members who were responsible for specific areas of study, e.g., agriculture, water power, irrigation, and forestry resources.

Chronological by day, month, and year

The series was originally arranged by subject and author/recipient. The original order created chaos and therefore was changed for a clearer understanding by the researcher.

Processing Note

This series is scheduled under the Utah State Agency General Retention Schedule, schedule 1, item 9, in 1997 and will be permanently retained by the State Archives. This series will not be filmed because high reference use is not anticipated so there will not be wear and tear on the paper. This series was processed by Wendy Checketts in 1999. As received in State Archives, this series was originally administrative Records and included correspondence, minutes, and reports. These records were divided into their own series. This correspondence was arranged by author/recipient and subject. I have changed the original order to chronological by date for a clearer understanding of the series.
